Mold under the wood could be checked by using a $10 mold test kit from a hardware store or having your floor professionally inspected (they have fancy equipment that makes it quicker and more accurate than using the DIY kit). Remember that
small amounts of mold are normal for any house, so don't panic if you get a nonzero reading on the test kit. If you have a
serious case of mold then you'll need to pull your floor and get it cleaned out before it spreads.
If the wood itself is molding you should be able to see some dark speckles or splotches in the infected areas. There will also be a musty mold smell if you get close enough. If you do have mold in the wood (but it isn't too severe) you might be able to scrub the mold stains off with a fine grit sandpaper followed by a mold/mildew killer (moldx or similar) to prevent re-occurrence. You'll need to refinish your floor afterward though.
