It's required on most floors. Whether it's something you install or it's pre-installed on the flooring product it's self. You would be wise to consult the instruction manual which references the manufacturers requirements. This will ensure your product stays under warranty (just in case). An underlayment does several things. It adds insulation to your floor for heat retention, quitets the floor (in the case of hard surfaces) and allows the product to expand and constrict (on floating floors).

Ok, thanks, I think I am going to go with Silent Blue which another person suggested to me. Its too bad that this is required though cause I didn't really want to spend the extra money. ~ Nauntilus

I find cork as a excellent underlayment ,but it is pricy
