What are peoples thoughts on the Floor boar? I've seen HUGE negative posts on youtube and other reviewing sites.

I love the Floor Boar!

Everytime I go into my flooring supplier, he has one on the counter and I laugh and laugh some more. Even if I'm in a lousy mood that thing will still make me laugh.

Seriously, looks like a piece of junk! Could you imagine showing up on the jobsite with one of those? Have had my magnum shear for around five years now and couldn't live without it.

I didn't really think about using my shear for flooring since I bought mine for doing siding. But when I went to do some laminate at my house I looked into other cutters (forgetting that I had one already). This is what I found on some of the reviews of the Floor Boar.
Quote:
"Went through 3 of these in 2 days. Ratchet failed on the first one, cutter teeth went on the second, and the ratchet again on the third. All in just trying to complete a 10 x 13 room. When it worked it worked great, manufacturing quality was the issue. The cuts it made were straight and easy. Until quality improves don't waste your time or money. HD handled exchanges well though."

"For a 200SF floor, I broke 3 of this cutter! Most parts of this cutter is good except a very small thing in its lever clicking to keep rotation. But if this little metal stuff is deformed, the cutter cannot work any more. All three cutters have this mechanical failure."

"Took out of the box, used for 2 cuts- broken. The rachet part wouldn't work after 3 minutes. Total waste of money. Good idea, it would work, but it was built like it came out of a gumball machine. Use a jig-saw instead."

"Went through 2 of these in 1 day. Ratchet failed on all."

Bottom line from these reviews... EPIC FAIL! Not to mention that there's too much information on the good reviews for me to think that the manufacturer of the floor boar didn't do it themselves. Bottom line. Do the research on anything you buy. And don't believe everything you read!

Good point WallMonkey. The one thing I do notice in reading through a couple of those reviews, is that the good reviews are based upon people doing 200sq foot (or similar, DIY jobs). I'm sure the Floor Boar is an "ok" product for what it is, and that is a cheap junk chopper. If your an amateur and don't care that your job is going to look amateur (because it is) than with the price, how do you beat it? There's not much you can buy for 69$ to cut laminate flooring. Especially a quality laminate cutter to cut up to 12mm thick laminate.

The floor boar is a laminate cutter made by Robert's which chews its way through a cut using two saw-like blades turned by a ratchet. The tool is known for producing a low quality cut and for breaking easily. It isn't exactly fast either.

Actually the Floor Boar is vastly different from the EZ Shear. The Floor Boar uses two circular blades like a saw, with a ratchet like handle. It takes multiple strokes with the Floor Boar to make cuts. Also it has nothing to keep your board square when you cut so it is easy to have an angled cut (not on purpose) on your flooring.

Because the Floor Boar uses double blades it causes you to lose about 1/4" of material every cut you make, and the cuts are very rough.

The EZ Shear however uses a single straight blade, and can cut a board with one stroke. Also the EZ Shear has a straight fence which allows you to have square cuts every time. Because the EZ Shear uses a single straight blade when it cuts, it doesn’t cause any type of waste due to the machines performance.

Overall the EZ Shear is a better machine, and will save you a lot of time compared to the Floor Boar. However if you are basing your buying decision on price, the Floor Boar is cheap.

I will actually be posting a review on both the Floor Boar and the EZ Shear with images here in a couple weeks when I have finished my analysis on both machines. I will post a link when I have finished those.

I hope this helps! Think

It is nice that the floor boar will do rip cuts but it takes forever. Much easier just to run outside and throw it through the table saw. I rented a magnum shear from home depot and when i brought it back in i ordered one right away. They are amazing, best tool i have yet.

I have used the floor boar just to see how well it would cut material and my goodness it was ridicules how long it took to cut the product. On top of that it looked like a rat came and gnawed through the material. I was embarrassed for Floor boar. I love the Magnum Shear it is what I like to call my assistant work horse!!
