Does anyone have any suggestions on a coating that will last a long time and put a "rock hard" glossy finish on a Red Oak hardwood flooring? I need something that will stand up to a very hyper active Great Dane dog.

Lexan! HA HA HA! j/k. Really if I were you I'd contact the manufacturer of your floor and ask them what they recommend. Some companies will void your floors warranty if you put a coating on it.

No finish will stand up to any scratches from the toe nails of dogs and cats when they are running and playing in your house.Cats claws come out when they try to stop, same as dogs.In the light you will see the scratches on the floor.A hard surface like laminate is your only solution.Waterbase, oilbase finishes are meant for socks and bare feet

we did a job with satin finish oak and there was a couple of boards that had splits in them. you had to look really hard to see them. usually with semi gloss its not too hard to find them.
