pulling the trim is importent so that when you ` finish the flooring install you can cover up the edges that have the right expantion space and the floor will look better sence you wont show any open spaces around your corners SO yes take the trim off everytime before you start flooring prep.

Some times the trim sits high on your wall compared to the thickness of the product you are installing. So consider if you are going to put a 8mil product or a 12mil or greater to compinsat, when putting your trim back on.

some people break the trim trying to remove it. always cut the paint and caulking along the top first.if its really old trim might want to consider new stuff. if you want to leave it you can always go around with quarter round
