I like the Quiet Step Underlayment (and have it in my own house) for laminate floors, and just use good 'ol tar paper for hardwood. Maybe it's just perception but it seems like the quiet step does make my living room quieter than the rest of the house.

I am about to install some laminate in my house. I would be interested in hearing about some other kinds of underlayment to make an informed decision. Can anyone help? I looked up that quiet step stuff and it seemed quite a bit more expensive than the stuff I'm looking at, at Lowes...
