If I need to create a false wall to work from I snap a line, and screw some disposable spacers on the line. I like the way the Bullet Tools Smart Spacers work for this. Plus they're less expensive than the other non garbage spacers.

wife says that if i dont retract my last post i will have to create four false walls and a roof lol. but seriously i have some one inch by three quarter strips that i have predrilled for this purpose. got to keep that first row straight

I did some framing for a while and I remember one time I called out a measurement in sixteenths of an inch and my boss said "what's that?" "we don't use 16th!!! We only use 1/8" +/-" HA!!! That's some good quality crapsmanship there!

ive seen a 10 foot long wall out 3 inches. acceptable in an old row house but not good in brand new construction

Yes i can see that in older homes ,but new, the contractor should be fired
