HA HA! I remember the first few carpet installs that I did myself. LOL. And basically I didn't know that there was a pattern to carpet. SO after a short period of time the seam was HORRIBLE!

i remember installing rubberback carpet for my buddy years ago. I was learning as I went, so this was a freebie. Iwas roughing in for the closet and passed my knife right through the doubled back carpet. I then had to get a gallon of glue and full spread it. Learned a valuable lesson that day

safer= not near as slippery as any wood or tile. if a kid or adult falls they have a much better cushion with carpet. having said that i know you cant beat the beauty of hardwood stairs and thats what i have in my own house but with grandkids coming over i am considering a carpet runner

we tried that here a few years ago and the building inspecters turned it down. they said it was a trip hazzard and against code. we were given warning letters from the city

very serious. the sales people would show customers the letter when they requested laminate stairs. the letter was from the city inspections dept. it said if we put laminate on stairs with a raised nosing we would be responsible for changing it. they called it a trip hazzard. we have the same issue with bullnose that is checked for laminate. i had to go back to a job and sand a finished nose down to 3/16 overlap.
